Feelow: Diary & Journal — Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Feelow: Diary & Journal (“Feelow”) is a personal diary application. This privacy policy describes how Feelow handles personal information and how its optional services work. For privacy-related questions, contact support@feelow.app.

1. Your personal journal stays on your device

Your journal entries, mood selections, photographs, drawings, private voice notes, and optional first name are stored on your device. Feelow encrypts saved journal data locally. We do not operate a cloud service that receives or stores your personal journal, and we do not have the keys needed to read its contents.

You control any encrypted backups you export. If you save a backup to a location or cloud service of your choice, that separate service’s privacy terms apply. Feelow does not automatically upload your journal or backups.

2. Optional cloud voice transcription

If you explicitly choose multilingual cloud dictation, and consent before recording, the new voice recording you make is securely sent to Feelow’s transcription service, operated on Vercel, and forwarded to OpenAI for conversion into text. The resulting transcription is returned to your device. Feelow does not intentionally retain the recording or its transcript on its transcription server.

Your existing journal entries, photographs, drawings, and saved private voice notes are not sent to OpenAI through this feature. The device’s own dictation option does not use Feelow’s cloud transcription service. The operating-system dictation provider may handle information under its own privacy policy.

Feelow uses encrypted HTTPS connections for its cloud services. Third-party processors may handle connection metadata and apply their own security and retention practices. We do not use cloud voice content for advertising.

3. Optional voice subscriptions and identifiers

If you use optional paid voice plans, subscriptions are purchased through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, and RevenueCat is used to verify purchase status and restore entitlements. Feelow does not receive your payment card number.

To provide the subscription service, a pseudonymous identifier generated by the app, purchase/subscription status, purchased plan, relevant transaction dates, and consumed transcription seconds may be processed by RevenueCat, Feelow’s backend, and the respective app store. This identifier is not your personal journal content. Apple, Google and RevenueCat process purchase information in accordance with their own policies.

Paid cloud transcription is optional; writing and saving your personal journal do not require an account or a subscription.

4. Security, abuse prevention, and technical data

To limit automated abuse and control voice service costs, the transcription service processes technical connection information. It uses an irreversible salted hash derived from the network address to keep short-lived rate-limit counters in Upstash Redis. These counters are not used for advertising or for reading your journal.

When a subscription is active, Feelow also stores pseudonymous entitlement information and a counter of the number of seconds of cloud transcription used within the billing period. The service uses these records to check access, prevent unauthorized use, and avoid exceeding purchased credits.

Vercel and Upstash provide infrastructure processing for these services. The cloud transcription service does not use advertising identifiers.

5. Permissions and reminders

Feelow requests microphone access only for features initiated by you, such as dictation or a voice note. Photos and files are accessed when you choose to attach or export them. Optional reminders are scheduled on your device and do not reveal journal text or mood.

Feelow may use your device’s local lock methods, such as fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN, without Feelow collecting your biometric information.

6. What we do not do

Feelow does not sell your personal information or upload the content of your saved journal to our servers. The application is not a social network and does not provide public posting of your entries. The free version displays advertising as described in section 11; your journal content is never used for ad targeting.

7. Data retention and deletion

Your journal and other private content remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall Feelow. Deleting the app removes its local app data; any backups that you exported elsewhere must be deleted separately by you.

New audio submitted for cloud transcription is handled for the transcription request; Feelow does not intentionally keep an audio archive. Short-lived rate-limit counters expire automatically. Subscription and credit records may be retained for the relevant billing period and an additional reconciliation period, and may be kept longer where needed for purchase verification, refunds, fraud prevention, or applicable legal obligations. Apple, Google and RevenueCat may independently retain transaction information under their own policies.

Feelow does not offer user-created cloud accounts. For questions about privacy or information relating to a subscription identifier, contact support@feelow.app.

8. Age and wellbeing

Feelow is intended for users aged 16 years and older. Its journaling, mood reflection, and encouraging messages are for personal reflection and general wellbeing. Feelow is not a medical service, therapist, or emergency support service and does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment.

9. Third-party service providers

Feelow may involve: Apple / Google Play for payments, RevenueCat for entitlement verification, Vercel for hosting the transcription backend, Upstash for abuse-prevention and credit counters, OpenAI for optional audio-to-text transcription, and Google AdMob for advertising in the free version. These providers process the information needed to deliver their respective functions and may be subject to their own data handling and retention policies.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when Feelow’s features or data practices change. The current policy is published at feelow.app/privacy and linked from the app and its store listings. If a change affects the way personal or sensitive data is used, we will update the related in-app notices and store declarations as appropriate.

11. Google AdMob advertising

Where ads appear: The free version of Feelow may display a Google AdMob banner in Explore and occasional full-screen ads after a completed action (for example after saving a memory), with limits on frequency. Ads are never shown while you are writing, dictating, recording or saving.

Advertising-related data: The Google Mobile Ads SDK may process IP address (which may indicate approximate location), app interactions, ad views and clicks, technical diagnostics and device/app identifiers, including advertising IDs where permitted and available. Google and partners may use these data for ad selection, measurement, fraud prevention and optional personalization where allowed by law and user choice. Details depend on device, region and consent. See the Google Privacy Policy and Google’s partner services information.

Private information: Feelow does not send your journal entries, memories, moods, photos, voice recordings, transcripts, personal reminders or encrypted backups to AdMob. Only limited ad frequency counters are kept locally to reduce interruptions.

Consent and choices: In regions where consent is required, Feelow shows Google’s consent form before requesting ads, and privacy choices can be changed again in Settings where required. Your device may also offer advertising and tracking controls. All journal features remain available if you decline optional advertising data processing.

Ad-free: Any active monthly voice plan removes advertisements. Store purchase screens disclose pricing, cloud dictation minutes, renewal and restoration conditions.

Content rating: Ads are limited to Google’s “PG” maximum ad content rating.
